We camp a lot on the California coast near Big Sur. The wind off the ocean can be brutal. We had a tent collapse on us last year. I want to buy something bombproof this time. I keep hearing about Coody tents. Are they actually good in high wind or will they blow away?

They are excellent in the wind. The air beams act like a suspension system. Instead of fighting the wind until they break, they absorb the gusts. I have been Сoody camping in pretty severe winds and the tent barely moved. You have to use all the guy lines, obviously, but the shape and the weight of the canvas keep it planted. It feels much safer than a rigid pole tent that snaps under pressure. Definitely a solid choice for coastal camping.
